VW Split Screen Camper (Barney)

This is a genuine 1963 right hand drive UK vehicle. This my own personal vehicle which was bought in 2005. A full internal refit has just been completed. This has provided a full width rock'n'roll bed with a full width bulkhead cabinet housing a SMEV combination 2 burner hob and sink with pumped water. Upholstery has been supplied by DB Trims in a chocolate brown with orange piping. All internal panels will be finished stained wood to match the cabinets and compliment the chocolate brown seating and the light tan lining carpet. New lighting has been installed, as have new curtains. Barney is fitted with the very effective Propex Heatsource 1800 gas fired blown air heating system providing comfort even in these harsh winters we are experiencing.

ALL the windows are pop outs! The front pair are painted Safari windows and the 6 side windows are chromed pop outs. A real rarity is Barney's small rear window which is also a chromed pop out - you don't see many of those!

Mechanically the camper is sporting a 1641cc twin carb engine with chrome tinware and detailing. Barney has been lowered and is currently running on OEM steel wheels.  Barney has also been converted to 12 volt, allowing for easier starting, less cold weather failures and modern stereos to be fitted. He sports a SCAT shifter which gives a nice precise gear change. Also he has three auxiliary guages in the cab roof - oil temperature, oil pressure and voltage - plus a rev counter mounted to the right of the steering wheel.

Barney could benefit from some paint repairs. An area on the tailgate had cracked and lifted and there are some cracks on the panel around the fuel filler flap. These can be seen in the pictures.
